A sacred place worth the journey.
Modern Nafpaktos was known in Western Europe as Lepanto. The naval battle of 7 October 1571 was fought offshore in the Gulf of Patras, not inside the town; the Venetian harbour and nearby Botsaris Tower form the principal visitable memorial landscape. The tower houses a permanent exhibition of replica paintings, maps, and designs related to the battle.

Stand beside Nafpaktos’s enclosed Venetian harbour, then visit Botsaris Tower to place the Battle of Lepanto within the Catholic memory of the Rosary without confusing the memorial landscape with the offshore battle site.
