The naval battle of 7 October 1571 was fought offshore in the Gulf of Patras, not inside the town; the Venetian harbour and nearby Botsaris Tower form the principal visitable memorial landscape. The tower houses a permanent exhibition of replica paintings, maps, and designs related to the battle.
