Paramaribo’s wooden cathedral basilica contains the tomb of Blessed Peter Donders, the Redemptorist missionary remembered for ministry among people with leprosy at Batavia. It qualifies because of the documented tomb and living local cult—not simply because it is Suriname’s cathedral. Historical interpretation should also acknowledge the colonial and medical context without romanticizing suffering.
