The story

Mary MacKillop worked with Father Julian Tenison Woods to establish the Sisters of St. Joseph of the Sacred Heart and a form of religious life committed especially to education and service where needs were greatest. Her ministry crossed long distances and difficult ecclesial circumstances.

Because her story is geographically rich, no single building tells it all. Melbourne preserves birth and sacramental beginnings, Penola the first school and foundation landscape, Adelaide and Portland important ministry chapters, and North Sydney her tomb.
