Walk the hill town in one direction

A practical sequence is St. Francis, the Sanctuary of the Spoliation and St. Carlo, then St. Clare. The historic center is steep, stone-paved, and traffic-restricted; choose parking or a bus stop that avoids retracing the climb.

Treat the valley and hermitage separately

The Porziuncola is below Assisi in Santa Maria degli Angeli. San Damiano requires a descent, while the Eremo delle Carceri is high on Monte Subasio and has no public bus; use a taxi, car, or the marked CAI 350 footpath.
