The UNESCO-listed archaeological and pilgrimage landscape on the east bank of the Jordan, accepted by many churches as Bethany Beyond the Jordan and associated with Jesus’ baptism. Excavations document centuries of baptismal pilgrimage from late antiquity; they support the site’s ancient cult and landscape but cannot prove the exact point where Jesus stood. A new Latin Catholic Church of the Baptism was inaugurated here in 2025.
