A sacred place worth the journey.
Barcelona’s active expiatory basilica, begun in 1882 and shaped above all by Venerable Antoni Gaudí. Pope Benedict XVI dedicated the church and declared it a minor basilica in 2010. The Nativity façade and crypt—not the entire basilica—form part of UNESCO’s Works of Antoni Gaudí property. Gaudí is buried in the crypt’s Chapel of Our Lady of Mount Carmel.
