Biography
Paul, a Jew from Tarsus and a Roman citizen, became one of Christianity’s most consequential missionaries after the encounter with Christ that Acts places on the road to Damascus. His letters and the narrative of Acts connect his witness with communities across the eastern Mediterranean and, finally, Rome.
The map distinguishes places named in Scripture from later local traditions. Archaeological sites can illuminate the cities Paul knew without proving that a particular surviving wall, room, road, or well was personally used by him.
How to read this pilgrimage
A Pauline pilgrimage is best understood as a sequence of distinct biblical episodes rather than one modern continuous trail: conversion, preaching, journeys, custody, voyage, martyrdom, and burial.
